Response Time Guarantees for Atm-networked Control Systems

چکیده
We present the Response-Time Analysis (RTA) method for providing real-time guarantees in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) communication networks, and evaluates its suitability for use in hard real-time factory-type environments. RTA provides an analysis of the network tra c which can be used by an admission control mechanism to determine if the timing requirements of a new connection can be guaranteed without violating the requirements of already admitted connections. This type of admission control is required by several multimedia and almost all real-time control applications. RTA is based on traditional xed-priority/rate-monotonic real-time CPU schedulability analysis. This makes it possible to combine communication analysis with CPU schedulability analysis, thus allowing system designers to use the same technique for assessing the timely behaviour of the entire system, including both CPU and network scheduling. The only assumption RTA makes about the ATM-network is that the switches should be equipped with prioritised output queues, something which is true for many commercial switches. The main focus of this paper is on evaluating RTA. In the evaluation we compare RTA with Weighted Fair Queueing (WFQ) and the Calculus of Network Delays (CND). WFQ is the currently most popular method for providing performance guarantees, and CND provides an alternative analysis for prioritised queueing. The comparison shows that RTA outperforms both WFQ and CND for a set of realistic tra c scenarios.

متن کاملModelling and Compensation of uncertain time-delays in networked control systems with plant uncertainty using an Improved RMPC Method
Control systems with digital communication between sensors, controllers and actuators are called as Networked Control Systems (NCSs). In general, NCSs encounter with some problems such as packet dropouts and network induced delays. When plant uncertainty is added to the aforementioned problems, the design of the robust controller that is able to guarantee the stability, becomes more complex. In...
متن کاملTime Delay and Data Dropout Compensation in Networked Control Systems Using Extended Kalman Filter
In networked control systems, time delay and data dropout can degrade the performance of the control system and even destabilize the system. In the present paper, the Extended Kalman filter is employed to compensate the effects of time delay and data dropout in feedforward and feedback paths of networked control systems. In the proposed method, the extended Kalman filter is used as an observer ...
متن کاملMarkovian Delay Prediction-Based Control of Networked Systems
A new Markov-based method for real time prediction of network transmission time delays is introduced. The method considers a Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) neural model for the transmission network, where the number of neurons in the input layer is minimized so that the required calculations are reduced and the method can be implemented in the real-time. For this purpose, the Markov process order...
متن کاملNeural-Smith Predictor Method for Improvement of Networked Control Systems
Networked control systems (NCSs) are distributed control systems in which the nodes, including controllers, sensors, actuators, and plants are connected by a digital communication network such as the Internet. One of the most critical challenges in networked control systems is the stochastic time delay of arriving data packets in the communication network among the nodes. Using the Smith predic...
